How care works in New Brunswick.
New Brunswick is officially bilingual (English and French), and we deliver care in both languages. Home-based acute and chronic care across the province is provided through the Extra-Mural Program (EMP) — informally called "the hospital without walls" — which has been operated by Medavie Health Services New Brunswick on behalf of Horizon Health Network and Vitalité Health Network since 2018.
- Capital region — Fredericton, Oromocto
- Greater Saint John — Saint John, Quispamsis, Rothesay
- Greater Moncton — Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview
- North shore (Chaleur, Péninsule acadienne) — Bathurst, Caraquet, Shippagan
- Nord-ouest — Edmundston, Grand Falls, Campbellton
RNs and NPs are regulated by the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) / l'Association des infirmières et infirmiers du Nouveau-Brunswick (AIINB); LPNs by the Association of New Brunswick Licensed Practical Nurses (ANBLPN).
The Extra-Mural Program is province-wide and bilingual. Private agencies work alongside EMP to deliver companionship, personal support and overnight care in family homes.
Information above describes the public regulatory and home-care landscape in New Brunswick. Xtreme Care Services is a private agency that works alongside these programs.
